[2026-07-04 00:24:51] [email protected]: @GroupNebula563 @asklemmy @askfedi doesn't really exist, the closest would be brave, but we know who runs brave...Recently ecosia and qwant have started serving queries from their own shared index EuSP, but they still mostly rely on bing and google. There's also mojeek, but their index is small, around 11-13 billion web pages and local search does basically nothing

[2026-06-30 01:35:40] [email protected]: @GroupNebula563 @asklemmy @askfedi I've been daily driving Uruky, it's got a long ways to go but progress is being made.https://uruky.com/Been trying to keep track of bugs and suggestions i havehttps://code.apps.thibaultmol.link/thibaultmol/Uruky-bugs-suggestions/issues?q=&type=all&sort=relevance&state=all&labels=&milestone=0&project=0&assignee=0&poster=0&archived=false

[2026-06-28 17:24:46] [email protected]: @azonenberg marginalia search is *kinda* like that @GroupNebula563 @asklemmy @askfedi

[2026-06-28 17:03:47] [email protected]: @GroupNebula563 @asklemmy @askfedi I guess clew.se ticks these boxes

[2026-06-28 16:16:22] [email protected]: @GroupNebula563 @asklemmy @askfedi marginalia ? the results aren't very broad though

[2026-06-27 11:42:34] [email protected]: This is the answer.

[2026-06-27 11:16:19] [email protected]: @GroupNebula563 @asklemmy @askfedi Since switching to @Vivaldi I've switched almost entirely to @StartpageSearch 🔎

[2026-06-27 10:26:14] [email protected]: If it weren't for point 2 I would have recommended Searx. And if it weren't for point 1 I would have recommended Ecosia, Qwant, or Mojeek.

[2026-06-27 10:05:18] [email protected]: @GroupNebula563 @asklemmy @askfedi I don't know how they get their results or from where, but I like StartPage for the lack of AI.

[2026-06-27 10:03:48] [email protected]: @GroupNebula563 @asklemmy @askfedi the one idea i had was a browser extension where users seeing an index-worthy page could click a button to manually add the DOM from their session to a curated index, after passing whatever anti scrape countermeasures were in use.No crawling, just users voting "i think other people should be able to find this page".

[2026-06-27 10:02:00] [email protected]: @GroupNebula563 @asklemmy @askfedi i am not aware of any, nor do i think it's likely that one exists. The level of anti-bot defenses deployed across the internet in response to LLM crawlers is so high that it's basically impossible to create an independent search index in 2026. If you're not already one of a handful of trusted crawlers you're just gonna get cloudflare and anubis block pages.

[2026-06-27 09:43:52] [email protected]: hello fedi! looking for an actually decent search engine! any recommendations?by actually decent i mean:- no "ai". zero. whatsoever. zilch. nada. none. did i mention zero.- not just repackaging results from other search engines- not run by complete and utter fuckwadsthanks! :) /gen@asklemmy @askfedi #AskFedi #DuckDuckFedi

[2026-03-25 06:15:24] [email protected]: anyone know an equivalent drop-in replacement for the Humirei HS-1101/HS-1100 humidity sensor? the 1100s aren’t being made at all anymore, and only clones of the 1101 are being made. i have no issue with using clone components (the one I’m replacing is a clone) but this general style of sensor seems incredibly fragile and prone to falling out of calibration. (the one I’m replacing had, and then broke when I tried to take it apart to clean/investigate it)#AskFedi #DuckDuckFedi @askfedi

[2026-03-13 05:02:34] [email protected]: @linux @askfedi …I also want it to integrate nicely with modern stuff though, the problem is my Debian w/ TDE install is great but not configured for *anything* and can’t configure itself :P

[2026-03-13 05:00:48] [email protected]: does anyone have any sort of “retro Linux distro”? like something that mimics back when computers did what you told them to and has that sort of interface where you have all your options on one screen and can do anything with one keybind if you want#Linux @linux #AskFedi @askfedi

[2026-03-13 02:45:25] [email protected]: @askfedi …I’ve just discovered @disroot, they seem like a good fit

[2026-03-13 02:40:56] [email protected]: @gabboman @askfedi see the other reply :P

[2026-03-13 02:40:12] [email protected]: Tuta

[2026-03-13 02:39:17] [email protected]: @askfedi …and not a single trace of AI please (ideally they should be actively against it)

[2026-03-13 02:38:32] [email protected]: anyone know any good privacy friendly email providers? (NOT PROTON)#AskFedi @askfedi
