[2025-11-25 00:39:59] [email protected]: @GroupNebula563 @Binder @askfedi Oh and FWIW one anti-spammer approach I’ve seen used in some Discord servers is to initially restrict new members until they appropriately identify themselves and are given a new role. This can be automated via things like having a pinned message in a R/O channel with various reacts on it, and having selection of those reacts set the roles of that user.tl;dr - some spammers will lose interest in a server if the process to gain posting access is sufficiently onerous

[2025-11-25 00:30:15] [email protected]: @GroupNebula563 @Binder @askfedi Some of those “fonts” misuse grapheme clusters from other scripts that just happen to look like latin grapheme clusters. For example the “Japanese” script misuses codepoint U+4E47 (乇) as a latin “E”, but it is not an “E” - it is a character from the Han script. This may matter because assuming you’re able to restrict these “fake latin” grapheme clusters using Discord regexes, you’ll also be preventing some valid non-English scripts from being used by non-English speakers.Perhaps that doesn’t matter in your particular server ofc, but it’s still an unintended consequence that’s worth being aware of.

[2025-11-25 00:09:46] [email protected]: @askfedi #AskFedi I need a regex (for Discord’s AutoMod) that prevents any text in all Unicode “fonts” from being sent. By “Unicode fonts” I mean things like these: https://texteditor.com/font-converter/Spammers are frequently using them to get around the existing regexes and no one in the server uses them legitimately, so I would like a regex to catch them outright. Thanks! :)

[2025-11-21 23:02:48] [email protected]: @jbcrn @askfedi "off timer" was off, "off mode" was set to "standard" so i changed it to "off", will see if that fixes it!

[2025-11-21 23:01:41] [email protected]: @jbcrn @askfedi will take a look, brb

[2025-11-21 22:59:37] [email protected]: the manual says something called "off timer" and "off mode" on the advanced settings

[2025-11-21 22:54:07] [email protected]: @askfedi #AskFedi #tech I have an NEC MultiSync PA272W monitor, which will go to sleep when it has no signal. however, after a little bit of time asleep, it just turns off. I can't find an option in the settings to prevent this, does anyone know?

[2025-11-14 09:10:07] [email protected]: @GroupNebula563 @askfedi @linux under Appearance & Theme --> Fonts, there are settings for antialiasing. Have a look at those. If still doesn't work, then you may have to look at X config or something else on your system.

[2025-11-14 05:40:26] [email protected]: @askfedi #AskFedi @linux #Linux anyone know how to disable font smoothing in @tde?I can’t find it in the control center so I’m assuming it’s something with the X server

[2025-11-14 01:39:48] [email protected]: @askfedi #AskFedi #art #mastoart #fediart #ActuallyAutistic #ActuallyADHD #ActuallyAuDHD hey! I’m interested in learning how to do digital art (mainly like old-school GeoCities GOF style). anyone know any good resources? keep in mind I’m autistic and have ADHD so I like to know WHY things are, not just HOW they are. thanks! :)

[2025-11-13 06:52:29] [email protected]: DuckDuckFedi: I keep setting /etc/asound.conf to my preferred sound device - and then the number of the device keeps changing! Any way to set it based on the device name instead or prevent the device names changing constantly?@linux #Linux @askfedi #AskFedi

[2025-11-10 10:27:44] [email protected]: #askfedi @askfedi there was a YouTube skit I remember watching where some people were playing catch and someone says something like “I always used to play catch with my dad” and one person throws progressively larger objects at the other, culminating with driving a car into them. I don’t remember what it was called and I can’t find it for the life of me, does anyone know?

[2025-10-31 15:10:05] [email protected]: @askfedi #AskFedi shall i do a #PeerTube video on @[email protected] about screwing around with bootleg phones on a DIY 2G network? if so, suggest websites for me to try on them (HTTP only please) #tech

[2025-10-31 08:50:21] [email protected]: I have an Ubuntu install (a fairly old version), which is configured in a very specific way. I want to create a bootable installer image that copies that config, but for use on different machines. Is there a tool that will do this?Boosts appreciated! #Linux #FOSS #FLOSS #Tech #AskFrdi @askfedi

[2025-10-24 03:08:28] [email protected]: @GroupNebula563 @askfedi One of the worst offenders I have ever seen are touch sensitive lamps or nightstand lights.
