[2026-11-05 09:22:40] [email protected]: [CW]

Castration extends life span, but in a surprising way, mouse study suggestshttps://www.science.org/content/article/castration-extends-life-span-surprising-way-mouse-study-suggestsTo answer that question, the researchers plan to dissect the castrated mice to determine how they died. They also hope to identify life span–altering factors released by the testes. The reproductive organs produce more than 90% of the body’s testosterone, but it’s premature to conclude that the hormone is involved in the longevity patterns the scientists observed, Garratt says. “A whole load of changes occur when you castrate a male.”

[2026-11-04 18:24:58] [email protected]: Ink and Rain - Chapter 2: What the Snow RemembersWinter had settled over Prague like a held breath. The first weeks of December transformed the city into something out of the old fairy tales Julian's grandmother used to read him — the kind with wolves and woodcutters and impossible promises. Snow lined the railings of Charles Bridge. The Christmas markets bloomed in the Old Town Square, wooden stalls glowing with strings of amber lights, the air thick with cinnamon, roasted chestnuts, and mulled wine.Elias had never liked crowds. But walking through them with Julian's hand wrapped around his — warm, certain, unapologetic — he found he didn't mind them at all."You're staring again," Julian murmured, leaning down until his lips nearly brushed Elias's ear."I'm admiring," Elias corrected, cheeks flushing pink from more than the cold. "There's a difference.""Mm. Admire this."Julian caught his chin and kissed him right there, in the middle of Wenceslas Square, with hundreds of strangers streaming past them. It wasn't a shy kiss. It was slow and deliberate, tasting of hot chocolate and stolen sugar, and Elias felt his knees forget their purpose entirely. When Julian pulled back, he was grinning like a man who had just gotten away with something wonderful."Someone could have seen us," Elias whispered, though his fingers were still curled into the front of Julian's coat."Good," Julian said. "Let them see. Let the whole city see. Prague has seen centuries of love stories, Elias. It's rude to hide ours from her."That was the thing about Julian that undid him every time — the way he treated their love like it was something to be celebrated, never apologized for. Elias had spent so many years folding himself into smaller and quieter shapes, careful and invisible. Julian had walked into his workshop dripping rain and refused to let him be invisible ever again. That night, they wandered back through the snow-hushed streets of the Lesser Town, their footsteps the only sound in the world. At the corner of Nerudova, Julian suddenly stopped, pulled Elias backward into the recessed doorway of a shuttered bookshop, and pinned him gently against the old wooden door."Julian—" Elias started, laughing. "It's freezing—""Then I'll warm you up."Julian bracketed him with his arms, snowflakes settling in his dark hair, and looked at him with an intensity that made Elias's pulse stumble. The streetlamp above them flickered gold through the falling snow, and somewhere down the hill, a violin played something mournful and beautiful from an open window."Do you know what I thought," Julian said quietly, "the first time I saw you? Behind that workbench, with your little magnifying glass, glaring at me like I'd personally offended the concept of books?""That you were going to be trouble," Elias said."I thought, there's the most beautiful man I've ever seen, and he has no idea." Julian's thumb traced the line of Elias's jaw, achingly slow. "You looked at my grandfather's ruined journal like it broke your heart. And I thought — I want someone to look at me like that. Like I'm worth saving."Elias's breath caught. Snow kept falling around them, unhurried, infinite."You are," Elias said softly. "You were, the moment you walked through my door."Something in Julian's expression cracked open — all that composure, all that easy charm, crumbling into something raw and young and true. He kissed Elias like the snow was going to steal him away if he didn't. One hand slid into Elias's hair, cradling the back of his head like something infinitely precious; the other settled at his waist and drew him closer until not even the winter could fit between them.Elias melted into it, his mittened hands gripping Julian's lapels. The kiss deepened, slowed, softened. It was cold enough that their breath made clouds, warm enough where they touched that Elias forgot the season entirely. When Julian finally broke away, they were both gasping slightly, foreheads pressed together."Come home with me," Julian whispered."I am home," Elias said. "Wherever you are — that's home."They ended up at Julian's apartment in Malá Strana — a fourth-floor walk-up with a slanted ceiling, a cast-iron stove, and windows that overlooked the tiled dome of a baroque church. Julian built a fire while Elias made tea, and they ended up tangled on the old sofa in front of it, wrapped together in a single blanket that was definitely not big enough and neither of them cared.Elias lay with his head on Julian's chest, listening to the heartbeat beneath the wool sweater — steady, strong, his. Julian's fingers moved lazily through his hair, and the fire threw their shadows tall against the wall, intertwined like ink letters on a page."I've been thinking about the journal," Elias murmured."You and that journal. Should I be jealous?""Absolutely not," Elias said, pinching his side lightly. Julian yelped and laughed, and the sound vibrated through his ribs into Elias's ear. "There's a passage. Near the end. Your grandfather wrote it in Vienna, the winter before he died. I didn't translate it for you because — well, it felt too private. But it's yours. It belongs to you."Julian went very still beneath him. "Read it to me."Elias shifted so he could look up at him, the firelight catching the gold in his eyes. He quoted it from memory — of course he did; he'd read it a hundred times.'I have shaken hands with ministers and dined with poets. I have seen the world and catalogued its wonders. But tonight I understand, too late, that I only ever needed one thing: someone to come home to. Whoever finds this book — whoever loves enough to save it — do not make my mistake. Do not wait. Tell them. Tonight. Every night.'The silence afterward was thick and trembling. Julian's eyes were shining, and he blinked rapidly toward the ceiling, jaw tight."He waited his whole life," Julian said hoarsely. "He never told — the person it was for. We think. Mum found hints, letters never sent.""He didn't wait for nothing," Elias said gently, rising up on one elbow. He cradled Julian's face in both hands, wiping a stray tear away with his thumb. "You found the journal. You saved it. And I'm here. I'm telling you, and I won't stop telling you." He pressed a kiss to Julian's forehead, lingering there. "I love you, Julian."It was the first time he'd said it aloud.Julian made a sound Elias had never heard from him before — half laugh, half something broken open. He pulled Elias down into his arms, burying his face against his neck, holding him like gravity itself depended on it."Say it again," he whispered."I love you.""Again.""I love you. I love you. I love you, Julian Amherst, you impossible, rain-drenched, roof-climbing romantic—" Elias was laughing now, tears of his own sliding down into his hair, and Julian kissed each one away, soft press after soft press, his lips warm against Elias's temple, his cheek, the corner of his trembling mouth."I love you too," Julian said against his lips. "Since the umbrella. Since you lied to me about being closed. Since you took my grandfather's broken heart into your careful, beautiful hands and — without knowing it — took mine with it."They kissed for a long time after that, unhurried and deep, while the fire burned down to embers and the snow piled silver on the windowsill. Outside, the church bells of Malá Strana counted midnight across the frozen rooftops. Inside, the world was the width of a shared blanket, the heat of tangled legs, the quiet murmur of two voices discovering that the oldest story in the world could still feel brand new.Julian reached over Elias and turned off the lamp, and the room dissolved into firelight and falling snow, and the last thing Elias heard before drifting toward sleep — warm, held, utterly unbroken — was Julian whispering into his hair:"Every night. I'll tell you every night. That's the promise."And through the frosted window, far below, Prague glittered on in the dark — old, patient, and thoroughly unsurprised. The city had seen this story ten thousand times before. And it was never tired of it, either.#InkAndRain #BL #BoysLove #MLM #QueerArt #LGBTQ #LGBT #gay #story @board @bl
