@Thumper1964 @mutualaid I can certainly empathize with that. For what it's worth, my former spouse and I were in a similar situation about 9 years ago. Roof was shot and we were more than 9 months behind on our mortgage payments.We vetted a few of those "I buy junk houses" as best we could, and actually ended up with a reasonable deal. We didn't really make anything from it, but we were able to get out of it. It's something to consider, but be very careful because I think a lot of those folks are of less savory ethical means, if you catch my drift.As far as in-laws go, I can understand that as well. I think most of (at least American) society feel that way. I've even encountered a few people who got aggressive with me about begposting here, and my advice to you is resist the urge to engage and simply block. Neither you nor them are going to be satisfied, so you might as well ensure they don't have to see your begposts anymore.The way I try to cope with fundraising is that in my mind I try to remember, "would I judge someone else on the Fediverse this harshly for doing the same thing?" and I'm ashamed to say the answer is, when I was younger and more ignorant I might have.But once you're in the same boat, it's not nearly as black-and-white; hence why I say don't engage - they literally can't understand any more than I did before I ended up in this situation.Try to use CWs for the posts if you can so that it's not quite as overwhelming for everyone, and avoid self-deprecation despite your entire life being conditioned to feel a soul-crushing shame for not being a good enough "Capitalism" game player.If there's one thing the good folks of the Fediverse here have taught me, it's to start showing myself some grace and empathy even if it feels alien and unsettling.Good luck! My wife and I should probably do some of this for ourselves, but whenever we’ve put up a GoFundMe the inlaws have thrown a royal fit, saying it’s begging and embarrassing to them and blah blah blah. Long story short, we are in a living situation where we own our home but we want to get out of the house but we can’t afford to stay and we can’t afford to leave. We need about $20K. And you sort of gave me an idea, though my wife would probably kill me. None of my relations are on Mastodon, nor is she, and I guess nothing is stoppping me from talking about our issues and posting my Venmo link, like you did. Don’t have much to lose. I will boost this for you.

Hello again folks,Please forgive the audacity of me requesting even more help before we've even completely finished the four-figure auto repair fundraiser.I screwed up.I've gotten us in over our heads with a very serious bind.
