Prior to that, I struggled deeply with my depression and turned to alcohol as the solution. I have been to rehab countless times over the years but after his death, I have committed to my sobriety.In the midst of all of that, I lost almost complete access to my girls, having sheltered them from the pain and suffering I was going through, to allow them to have a life I thought would be better for them. I never stopped loving or caring for them, but I had to protect them.Now, I’m battling for my rights to remain with them and to have a home I can support them in and transportation for them and myself, so that I can go back to work. I commute 4 hours a day on the bus to get to and from work, staying at my parents home which isn’t conducive to having two children reside in due to my mothers mental illness and hoarding of animals.I just want to bring them home. I want to protect them from all that I can in the world and build community with them.I have fallen so hard in a financial hole, that I’m trying to dig myself out of, but I need a ladder and support. I can’t do this alone, I’ve tried. Now me and my wife are living week to week, and sometimes day to day, at motels. We live in a very tribalistic area and we have no family. All of my family is dead and my wife comes from a broken family. I am a Katrina survivor. My family lost everything in Katrina and I lost all of my family in the years after. I ultimately need help raising enough money for a car but also need help with food and keeping a roof over our heads in the meantime. We’ve reached out to every local church and charity and organization and nobody will help. We’ve reached out to local authorities and nobody will help. We’re stranded in this area and it’s hard to get sustainable employment, especially without a car. I’m also dealing with the effects of extreme malnutrition.
